So you may have seen my post recently about Steg Pegz that were seen at Hangtown on Hayden Deegan and Levi Kitchen's Star Racing Yamaha YZ250Fs. You may be wondering, what are Steg Pegz?
Steg Pegz are basically rubber pucks that are mounted using pre-existing mounting points that prevent your body from going backwards under acceleration. This in turn allows you to grip and control using your legs more preventing dreaded arm pump. The concept is simple yet very effective.
Since my posts and page revolve primarily around motocross it is important to note that Steg Pegz has a "further back" option that is set back approximately 75mm to accommodate for those who ride with the balls of their feet. This is the primary "attack position" most motocross racers strive for. They also offer a heavy duty version for the hard core off-road guys and gals out there.
My experience with Steg Pegz is very minimal but I was very impressed. My buddy Scuba Steve ran a set on his KTM 450SXF and I took it for some laps. I am unsure if he had the Further Back or Standard Steg Pegz but I was quickly able to focus more on my riding and gripping the bike with my legs was substantially easier. This in turn had me spending more time on the track and a great reduction in forearm fatigue. The Austrian bikes are incredibly thin in the middle and to me this makes squeezing the bike with my knees a bit challenging and Steg Pegz made it incredibly easier.
Motocross Action Magazine tested the Steg Pegz and had this to say.
