M X T E C H N I C A: Arm pump surgery to correct Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome (CECS)
Lots of emphasis in this sport focuses on the development and advancements in dirt bikes. We often forget that the athlete now trains at incredibly different level than in the past.
Heading to the track and riding through 2 tanks of gas no longer is adequate to keep up the pace with todays modern MX athlete.
Cross training is an industry standard as we see with riders in the off season picking up weights, road biking, swimming, MTB and many more different disciplines to sharpen their moto craft.
Arm pump surgery has become increasingly popular not only in MX but Moto GP as well. What is arm pump surgery?
Basically it’s an operation to release the fascia that surrounds the muscles around the forearm. Without the fascia constricting the muscles in the forearm more blood flow is achieved and the dreaded “pump” is mitigated. According to ElbowDoc patients report about an 80% to 90% satisfaction rate after the procedure.
@deanwilson15 just recently had the surgery I believe a second time and will be doing a follow up series on how it all works out for him. Definitely a good watch if you have considered it yourself or struggle with arm pump.
Seat time always helps but some people are unfortunately more susceptible to Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome (CECS) which is the fancy word for arm pump and a very real issue.
Anyone struggling checkout beet root powder and of course getting some cardio in. At Dean’s level he definitely is struggling with CECS.
